PROJECT INFORMATION

CLIENT: YMCA of Silicon Valley
LOCATION: Santa Clara, California

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The YMCA of Silicon Valley moved their Association Offices into a 15,012 SF shell office building, requiring full infrastructure redesign. The building houses numerous departmental offices, various sized conference rooms, and a large training room for use by the entire Silicon Valley YMCA division. The existing brick and steel joist structure was transformed into an open and airy office environment by celebrating the exposed structure, adding multiple skylights and filtering light through the glass partitions of the perimeter offices. Because of the exposed structure, the infrastructure had to be carefully organized to conceal all mechanical ductwork and electrical and data paths above the dropped ceilings at the building perimeter, both to avoid visibility and also to allow for ease of access for maintenance and repair. In addition, we surpassed the Y’s goal of achieving LEED certification for this project, and are currently under review to achieve a Gold LEED rating. A crisp and professional materials palette proves welcoming to staff and visitors and is worthy of the mission of this well-established community organization.
